ENVIRONMENT CONCEPTS

for Best Fiends Stars

Concept art and prop design made for the Glowcap Glade in Best Fiend Stars. This was used to quickly create the look and feel of the environment, set out it’s colour palette and atmosphere before being sent to the 3D team to create the world map segment for the game based on these paintings.

In Best Fiends, when a brand new Fiend is released, there is an Early Access Event that allows players to win the Fiend before it's official release. To do this they must win items by playing levels that would allow you to build their habitat. This is the skin of one such event where I designed the environment and all the props (and the character!) that would be won throughout the even.

The intent of these events was to provide the Fiends with a personality, and a home in which they could show it off. Players would first clean up the new room and the Fiends would “move in” with each new item personalising their space. This was another event background and set of props I created for Zaha.

Speed Paintings to help visualise how the Sky Mountain area of Best Fiends Stars world map would look.

This speed painting was made to quickly explore objects and colours for the Mystic Mountains area of Best Fiends Stars. From this the 3D team created the 3D map for the game.

Here I try out various different types of texture in the path to see which best suits the area, and the feel we wanted it to have.

Here I explored a variety of shapes that would be used for the underwater area of Best Fiends Stars, and how the environment might be populated by them. This was again sent to the 3D team to create the world map based on these paintings and sketches.
